There are many ways to alleviate the stressors of the day, whether that's hanging out with friends or reading a good book.
For me, it's finding a binge-worthy show with a hell of a plot.
It's imagination come to life, and the story can be as absurd as the author intends it to be. It's where creativity flourishes, and art can truly be appreciated.
So, I present some TV shows that have made a lasting impression on me:
Fleabag (2016)
This Amazon Prime masterpiece is full of comedy and raw emotion. Written and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag is about a woman finding coping mechanisms to treat the symptoms of the human experience --- loss, love, and the general ridiculousness of life, all the while breaking the fourth wall in fashion. The show is pure gold, balancing reflective moments with hilarious one-liners. If you've ever been in the mood for a mix of devastation and fun, this show's for you!
Sopranos (1999)
The Sopranos is an outstanding character assessment of Tony Soprano, a father and husband struggling with the pressures that come with his crime empire. The show probes the inner nuances of Tony's mob family, his mental health, and the chaos that transpires once he starts seeing a therapist. Every character is morally complicated, and the show delves into the shades of grey that make it a fascinating watch.
Industry (2020)
Besides the constant business jargon thrown my way, Industry is another masterpiece. Recent graduate Harper Stern lands a position at Pierpoint, a legacy investment bank. From the jump, the pressure is on. Under her relentless boss, Eric Tao, she learns to play the game and climb the corporate ladder. The show offers a mix of power struggles, unwavering ambition, and corporate madness.
Girls (2012)
Alexa, play "Girl, so confusing" by Charli XCX. This show features four friends as they navigate relationships, careers, and how to get by. Sometimes, they are best friends, and sometimes, they are enemies -- but one is for sure: they're always authentic to themselves. With its sharp humor and realness, it's one to add on your list.
If you're on the hunt for drama, dark comedy, or a raw portrayal of emotion, these shows understand the assignment.
